Introduction to Marmaris

Marmaris is located along the Southwest coast of Turkey. It is one of Turkey's most popular resorts, especially in the summer months when tourists arrive for the excellent nightlife. You will find yourself booking to return next year when you get back home. If you are travelling with your family with young children or with a group of friends, Marmaris will have something to keep you entertained. The transfer time from Dalaman Airport takes around 90 minutes after a flight of approximately 3 hours 45 minutes. The temperature in Turkey is fairly warm throughout the year. Obviously the best time to travel here would be in the summer time where it is perfect sunbathing weather. If you want a bit of winter sun, here in Turkey the thermometer usually reads 15-20 degrees. Beaches in Marmaris

Marmaris has a beautiful beach which consists mainly of volcanic sand and pebbles. The beach stretches right along the coastline. If you want to relax with a book or your headphones in why not hire a sun lounger with a parasol? You will definitely need the parasol when the sun reaches its hottest, even if it is just to give you a little bit of shade. Have you got a bit of energy to burn off? There is a wide variety of watersports on offer including jet skis, banana boats and water skiing. Running along the length of the beach is a promenade full of shops, bars, restaurants and cafes. These are open daily and serve a great choice of snacks and beverages. If you want a different beach for the day, there are plenty within easy reach of the resort, either hire a car or take the dolmus.

Things to do in Marmaris

Marmaris has so much to see and do for all the family. Whether you want to take in the cultural side of Marmaris, the nightlife or for relaxation, a holiday in Marmaris will be right up your street. The Grand Bazaar is perfect for shopping. You can buy your little bits and bobs to take home as a reminder of your holiday or for your friends and family members as souvenirs. Enjoy a fun filled day out at The Atlantis Water Park which is full of water slides, swimming pools even its own beach. There is a specific area for the kids to play safely and enjoy the water. There is a climbing frame with slides and water buckets as well as a mushroom shower, hours of fun will be had. For the adults there are thrill seeking waterslides and a wave pool. All the family can enjoy a round of mini-golf or sit in the bar and enjoy a drink. The on-site restaurant serves a good selection of meals and snacks for all to enjoy. Marmaris has Aqua Dream which is located at the top of a hill with stunning views. This water park is great for families and couples who want a great day out. Slide the slides, relax in the lazy river or splash about in the pool, you will have a great day out here. Take an organised boat tour and discover the sights of Turkey. Marmaris Castle and Museum is a popular tourist site to have a wander round. When you reach the top you can sit and admire the beautiful views over Marmaris. The castle is the most important historic building in the resort centre. The castle was first built in 1522 by the Ottomans. There is an archaeological display in two of the indoor areas within the grounds of the castle, both are worth looking at. If you enjoy a bit of pampering and relaxation, take a trip to the mud baths in Dalyan. You cover yourself in the mud then wash it off in the warm sulphur pool. Another fun family day out is a trip to the Go Karting track, juts 15 minutes from Marmaris, everyone will have fun here. The Greek Island of Rhodes is a short boat trip away, something a little different. Marmaris has an Old Town which has many narrow alleys where there are little boutique shops, intimate restaurants and local bars. These are all perfect for enjoy a local meal or a quiet drink to rest your feet.

Nightlife in Marmaris

Marmaris is known for its party atmosphere. The nightlife is set around two main areas of the resort, Bar Street and Beach Street. There is over 100 bars and clubs, most of which can be found on Bar Street. Along Bar Street you will find some of the famous bars and clubs including the largest club Crazy Daisy Bar and Nightclub holding up to 1300 revellers. Beach Street has a different atmosphere to Bar Street. Beach Street has a more relaxed and fun filled atmosphere with karaoke bars, dance bars and sports bars. This is a great place for the family to spend the evening. Over on the West side of Marmaris is Armutalan with theme bars and traditional Turkish entertainment. Marmaris has a good selection of restaurants serving a variety of dishes from local cuisine to an International menu.

Accommodation in Marmaris

You will find an excellent choice of hotels ranging from 3-5 star as well as luxury villas and apartments. The beach front is lined with hotels offering an All Inclusive basis. Sit on your balcony with a drink and watch the sunset and take in the stunning views. If you want to stay on a self catering basis and try out all the restaurants in town why not rent a luxury villa or apartment. There are plenty of shops and supermarkets in the vicinity to purchase your holiday essentials. The 5 star hotels offer an excellent level of customer service as well as facilities to suit all ages. Marmaris is home to a beautiful beach made up of volcanic sand and pebbles which runs all the way along the coast with amazing views. Aqua Dream is situated on the top of a hill with beautiful views over the resort. Slide down the waterslides, relax on a sun lounger or float around the lazy river on a rubber ring. The children can enjoy the separate children's swimming pool which has a fantastic climbing area with water slides, sprays and buckets to fill up. If you want to feel like you're in the sea head to the wave pool and jump the crashing waves. Once you've been splashing about in the pools and on the slides you are sure to want a drink and a bite to eat. Why not head to the onsite bar and restaurant to enjoy a spot of lunch before hitting the slides and sun loungers again for the afternoon.

Atlantis Water Park offers slides, children's swimming pool, a main swimming pools, lazy river, a bar and a restaurant, it also has its own beach! Sun, sea, sand and water slides all in one area!

For a bit of culture take a trip to Marmaris Museum and Castle. This point of interest is popular with tourist due to its stunning views over the resort. The castle was built in 1522 by the Ottomans and has displays within the grounds. There is an Old Town in Marmaris which has numerous narrow cobbled streets with local shops, small boutiques, intimate restaurants and quiet relaxing bars. This is an ideal spot to head to for a little bit of peace and quiet whilst having a bite to eat or a wander through the shops.

You could always take a boat trip and take in the sights of Turkey or pop over to the neighbouring Greek island of Rhodes, a popular day trip with tourists. For those looking to relax, Dalyan has mud baths for you to bathe in then you wash it off in the sulphur pool leaving your skin feeling silky smooth. Marmaris is full of shops where you can pick up local produce, designer goods and gifts to take home.

The nightlife in Marmaris is situated in Bar Street and Beach Street, depending on what you want to do for the evening will depend on which street you go to! Beach Street is a great spot for people watching, sitting in bars, singing on the karaoke machines and enjoy a drink with your family and friends. Families are welcome in the bars and restaurants along Beach Street, they welcome children with open arms. Bar Street is the place to head if you want to dance the night away. The street has over 100 bars and nightclubs, some holding up to 1,000 partygoers! For those wanting to be a bit more romantic, take a bottle of champagne and a blanket to the beach or the marina area and watch the sun set. A beautiful sight.

The restaurants throughout the resort serve a good selection of dishes to suit most palates and appetites. Most have an International menu as well as serving up local dishes. Armutalan is located on the West side of Marmaris and offers tourists traditional Turkish entertainment and a good selection of bars and restaurants.
