Times are tough for everyone financially at the moment and people are having to watch the pennies more than usual thanks to rising bills.

That applies to the little luxuries that we all take for granted from time to time, including an overseas holiday.

With that in mind, here’s a selection of destinations where the purse will stretch furthest to help you make that holiday you’ve been dreaming of into a reality.

Sunny Beach
The Annual Post Office Money Report consistently named this resort as the cheapest place to visit based on a range of different items you might purchase whilst abroad - such as a bottle of beer, a glass of wine, a cup of coffee and a three course meal for two.

Expect the latter to cost you under £20 whilst a bottle of local beer can be yours for under £1. Try and find somewhere back home where that will be the case….

As well as offering value for money, the resort is packed with plenty of hotels whilst the beach scene is rapidly becoming one of the most popular in Europe as people start to discover the joys of the Bulgarian coastline.

Marmaris
This year saw Marmaris knock Sunny Beach off the top of the Post Office Money Report, with trips to Turkey offering fantastic value for money - albeit only by a handful of pennies.

With a three course meal yours for little over £16, you’ll certainly be able to make your money go a bit further on a trip to the resort, which has plenty of cost effective accommodation options and relatively cheap flights from the UK.

Algarve
Enjoy some of Europe’s finest beaches, sandy islands and bucket loads of sunshine in wallet-friendly Algarve - which is another top option for Brits heading abroad.

Okay so its more expensive than either Sunny Beach or Marmaris - with a three course meal for two being almost double - but still notably cheaper than some other destinations that are widely visited by people from the UK, like Majorca.

There are plenty of flights out to the Algarve every week, and hotels to cater for all budgets - which makes the region one of the most accessible for all.

Cape Town
Who says budget breaks have to be short haul? Ok so it will cost more to get to South Africa but we can help to find the most cost-effective way to visit Cape Town - which is another destination that features highly on the list.

Hotel prices when you arrive will be less than you expected for a start - with the chance to stay in luxury accommodation for a much lower price than on some traditional short haul trips.

You will also find that things like an evening meal out or a glass of wine will cost less than in Spain, Malta or Lanzarote - to name but three.

With award-winning beaches, whale-watching and endless vineyards, South Africa has huge appeal - and doesn’t have to break the bank.
