The beach is sandy with crystal-clear waters that are shallow and ideal for children. Kalamaki Beach is the breeding ground for the famous Caretta Caretta sea turtle. During July and August, the beach is closed to the public after sunset, because this is the time the females lay their eggs in the sand. After 8 weeks, the eggs hatch and the baby turtles rush to the moonlit sea and safety.
