Puerto de Santiago sits on the west coast of Tenerife and is best suited to those who are looking for a quiet place to enjoy their HOT Holiday in the sun.
The former fishing village has a little bit of everything, with a sheltered small black sand beach, plenty of bars and restaurants, a good selection of hotels and apartments and of course good weather for much of the year.
That means an average of 12 hours of sun during summer with temperatures running into the high 20s, with winter bringing with it temperatures in the high teens and low 20s.
It can get cool on an evening outside of peak season however, so you might need a jacket…
The beach might be small, but it’s a good place to relax in the sun given that it tends to be quite quiet, with no watersports available off the coast and the fact that the resort is much less crowded than those to the south of the island.
The Blue Flag beach at Playa de la Arena is nearby, where windsurfing and diving are available, with a marina at Los Gigantes for those who might fancy a boat trip to try and spot dolphins swimming at sea.
Head inland and you can explore Mount Tiede National Park, which is home to the highest peak on the island, whilst around an hour north is the Loro Parque attraction – one of the most popular things to do anywhere in Tenerife.
Go the other way and the bustling resorts of Playa de las Americas and Costa Adeje are easily accessible, with attractions like Siam Park offering fun for all the family.
The nightlife in Puerto de Santiago is very laid back though there are plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Traditional Canarian fare is very much the local speciality.
