Praia da Rocha sits on the south-west corner of the Algarve and has become of the top resorts for people who are looking to embrace the Portuguese sun.

As with other resorts in the Algarve region, Praia da Rocha benefits from impressive weather throughout the year, which makes it an option for family-friendly HOT Holiday both in and out of season.

Visit during the summer months and you can expect to see plenty of blue skies and sun, with little in the way of rain to dampen your spirits. You might encounter some showers during the winter months, but the weather on the whole will certainly be an improvement over what you'll be leaving behind back home.

Near to Portimao, Praia da Rocha is famous for its beaches, with mile-upon-mile of stunning golden sand where you can either lie back and top up your tan, or enjoy a range of sports in the clear blue waters off the coast.

It's not all about the big beaches either, as you can head outside the resort to one of the various secluded coves surrounded by large cliffs for a more intimate beach experience.

For those travelling with their children, there are plenty of attractions around the resort that are geared towards the family market.

As well as zoos and waterparks, there is the chance to explore history and to take a trip into the past at the Fortaleza da Santa Catarina, or you could pay a visit to Portimao where there are plenty of shopping options if you want to grab a bargain to take back home.

You might also enjoy the opportunity to visit one of the various festivals that take place in and around Praia da Rocha every year, or to sample the impressive cuisine available in the many restaurants - with seafood being a particular specialty.

Zoomarine

Located around half an hour from the resort near to Albufeira, the Zoomarine park is a fantastic option for a fun-filled day away from the beach for all the family. As well as a range of rides, there is a waterpark with slides, as well as the chance to see a range of different animals – including dolphins.

Silves Castle

A short journey from Praia da Rocha is the town of Silves, which can actually be accessed with a trip along the Arade River. Once here, you can visit an impressive gothic cathedral or take a stroll through the cobbled streets to the imposing castle that looks down across the town

Dine along the seafront

There are plenty of options when it comes to dining in Praia da Rocha but the area alongside the promenade is particularly popular. Here you can sample traditional tapas and seafood with the best views of the coast.

Shop till you drop

If you enjoy a bit of shopping then you’ll love the chance to check out everything that Praia da Rocha has to offer. From weekly markets where you can barter for the best deal to the Aqua Portimao Shopping Centre with it’s high-street brands and designer stores, there’ll be plenty of options to bag a bargain to take back home.

Fortaleza da Santa Catarina

The Fortress of Santa Catarina was used to protect Portimao at the mouth of the Arade River and dates back to the 1600s. The impressive structure looks pretty much as it did in the days when it was first built and provides stunning views back across the beach at Praia da Rocha.

Splash and Slide

If you want to spend some time at one of the best waterparks on the Algarve then Splash and Slide will tick all the boxes. The park offers something for all ages, with large slides for those who love to be thrilled through to a lazy river and small childrens pool. There’s also a selection of animal shows featuring reptiles and birds.

Parque Zoologico de Lagos

The small zoo in nearby Lagos is open throughout the year and is home to a range of different species. Families will love the chance to get close to some of the creatures through various shows over the course of the day.
