The Costa del Sol sits on the southern coast of the Spanish mainland and has been welcoming overseas visitors in their millions for well over 60 years - and with good reason.
The main reason why can be found in the name, with the year round sun being a major attraction for those who want to escape for a HOT Holiday away from home.
In fact, the Costa del Sol benefits from more than 300 days of sun a year and temperatures that will regularly sit in the teens even during the winter months. Book a break in peak season and you shouldn't be surprised if the average temperature is regularly hitting the mid to high 20s.
If you are travelling somewhere where there is plenty of sun then you probably want somewhere with a good beach, which is something else that the Costa del Sol has in spades.
The likes of Benalmadena, Marbella and Torremolinos are famed for their golden sands, with plenty of opportunity to lie back, relax and top up your tan.
Many of the beaches benefit from Blue Flag status - handed out for cleanliness and facilities - with a range of water-based activities also available up and down the coast.
You don't need to stick to the beach however, with the Costa del Sol being home to a wide range of different attractions that will keep the whole family entertained.
Maybe you want to hit the waterslides at the Aqualand Park in Torremolinos or tackle the rides of Tivoli World in the heart of Benalmadena.
Perhaps you would like to get closer to nature with a visit to the SeaLife Centre or to Bioparc, or maybe you fancy a round of golf at one of the many top class courses to be found across the region.
You might even fancy heading for the clouds with a cable car trip to the summit of Calamorro Mountain.
With the opportunity to explore culture and history, and with top class entertainment and fine dining galore, the Costa del Sol is the ideal option for anyone who wants to make the most of their time in the sun.
So whether you simply want a budget break away from home or are looking for 5* luxury with everything included, the Costa del Sol is certainly worth considering.

Tivoli World
If you're in the area around Benalmadena then a visit to Tivoli World is a must. Open since 1972, the theme park has grown through the years and is now home to more than 40 different rides that are suitable for all ages as well as a range of special daily shows.
Calamorro Mountain
The summit of Calamorro Mountain stands at more than 700m above sea level and offers stunning views of Benalmadena and the surrounding area. After the trip to the summit by cable car, you might even be able to see as far as Gibraltar on a clear day.
Bioparc
Bioparc is a small zoo that is located in the heart of Fuengirola that is home to a range of animals, including crocodiles, gorillas, pygmy hippos and Sumatran tigers. As well as seeing the animals, you can learn more about the way in which the zoo is working to help conservation through its own special foundation.
Castillo de Sohail
Since being built in the 11th century, the Castillo de Sohail has been destroyed and rebuilt more than once and now stands as one of Fuengirola's most famous monuments. You can discover more about the history of the castle in a small museum and then take in the impressive views of the resort below.
Crocodile Park
You don't need to be Einstein to guess what Crocodile Park is all about. At the small zoo in Torremolinos, you can meet the largest crocodile in Europe, get up close and personal with a baby croc or simply take in one of the various talks and demonstrations that occur every day.
Marbella’s Golden Mile
The Golden Mile actually runs for more than a mile and is the place to go within Marbella if you want to embrace the buzzing nightlife and entertainment for which the resort is so well known. Alongside some of the best nightclubs on the Costa del Sol, you'll also find a selection of fine restaurants that are suitable for family dining.
