US President Joe Biden has announced the entry requirements that will be in place when America reopens to foreign visitors.

Restrictions have been in place since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a travel ban imposed by Donald Trump including dozens of different countries around the world, including the UK.

With vaccination rates now on the increase, and 29 countries having a vaccination rate of over 70%, the USA will move away from country-by-country rules to adopt a new policy based around vaccination status.

In a proclamation on how to advance the safe resumption of travel, President Biden confirmed that anyone who is fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will now be able to visit the United States.

Proof of vaccination will be required, with airlines required to check that the vaccination are those on the list approved by the US heath regulations, which includes both the Pfizer and AstraZenca variants.

A negative COVID-19 test is also required.

Children are not required to have the vaccination but will need to take a negative COVID-19 test within three days of travelling unless they are under the age of two, in which case, no test is required. [Update - Children will also be required to take a test within three days of arrival to avoid the need for quaratine].

Any adults who are not vaccinated will need to show a negative testing taken within a day of departure and then quarantine for seven days on arrival, with a further test.

Airlines will be required to collect personal information from all travellers for contact tracing reasons, whilst masks will be required on flights regardless of vaccination status.

The new restrictions take effect on 8 November.
