When it comes to theme parks, we’re pretty well served in the UK, with a range of options that are suitable for guests of all ages.

From the like of Legoland Windsor, Thomas Land and Peppa Pig World for the little ones through to Alton Towers, Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Thorpe Park for thrill-seekers, there is plenty of variety around these shores to keep you entertained throughout the year.

But what about when you’re heading overseas on your annual holiday?

Here, we count down five of the best theme parks in Europe that you might want to consider for a visit whilst away from home…

PortAventura, Salou


Located on the Costa Daurada, PortAventura is one of the most visited theme parks in Europe and is suitable for all ages. A range of different themed areas are based on different areas of the world, whilst there is also a Sesame Street-themed section or smaller children. Ferrari Land, a European version of the popular attraction in Abu Dhabi, is due to open in 2017.

Amongst the most popular rides are the Furius Baco and Shambhala rollercoasters, both of which hit speeds in excess of 80mph.

Next door to the theme park sits Costa Caribe Aquatic Park, home to King Khajuna; one of the tallest free form waterslides in Europe.

One day tickets come in at €45.00 for adults (11-59) and €39.00 for juniors (4-10). Discounted second and third days are available.

The Caribe Water Park comes in at €29.00 for adults and €25.00 for juniors.



Europa Park, Rust


Europa Park is located to the south west of Germany and, as the name suggests, is based on a model that features a range of different areas representing countries from around Europe.

Rides are suitable for all ages, with the Silver Star hypercoaster, Atlantica SuperSplash, Arthur and the Poseidon water coaster being just three of the most popular attractions.

With visitor numbers running well into the millions every year, you can expect it to be busy but with so many rides, to enjoy, you’re still assured of first class, fun-filled experience.

Adult entry (12+) comes in at €44.50, with children (4-11, proof of age required) at €38.50. Discounted rates apply in winter, while multi-day tickets are also available.



Siam Park, Costa Adeje


It might not be a theme park as such, but Siam Park on the island of Tenerife is one of the most impressive water attractions to be found anywhere in Europe.

The park is home to a number of record-breaking water rides, including a wave pool with the largest man-made waves in the world and a lazy river with the highest elevation anywhere.

The Tower of Power, which sees riders travel at up to 80km/h and pass through aquarium filled with sharks and rays, is another highlight.

Adult entry comes in at €34.00, with children at €23.00. Discounted rates are available for people resident in the resort, with other packages – such as VIP access and multiple days



Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen


Tivoli Gardens in Denmark is one of the world’s oldest amusement parks, and one of the most popular in Europe.

The biggest attraction is arguably the Rutschebanen rollercoaster, which dates back to 1914 with a selection of rides for smaller children, like the Dragon Boats and The Big Clock, ensuring that the park is perfect for all ages.

Pantomime Shows, an Aquarium and a large concert hall can also be found on site, albeit with some attractions at an additional cost.

Admission starts at 110DKK, with under eights entering free of charge.



Disneyland Paris


Located near to the French capital, Disneyland Paris is the most visited theme park in Europe; offering the magic of Walt Disney without the need to cross the Atlantic.

The resort offers visitors the chance to sample a range of Disney riders in the Disneyland Park itself, whilst there is also the Walt Disney Studios Park, which celebrates show business and the movies.

Big Thunder Mountain, Sleeping Beauty’s Castle and Space Mountain are just three of the popular rides.

Tickets start at £36.00 for adults and £30.00 for children if purchased in advance before your trip.
