Introduction to Benidorm

Benidorm is a coastal town with 6 km of beautiful sandy beaches for you to relax on. This resort is very popular with British holidaymakers thanks to its short flight time from the UK being just 2 hours 20 minutes and a 60 minutes transfer time from the airport. When arriving in Benidorm you will discover that the resort is divided into 2 areas, the lively new resort where all the nightlife happens and the Old Town where you can relax and enjoy the local attractions. Benidorm is known as party central during the summer, with its bustling nightclubs, rocking bars and romantic restaurants. The resort has over 1,000 places to eat, drink and party. Families, couples and groups of friends return year after year to soak up the friendly atmosphere and Blue Flag beaches. The resort has, on average, 350 days of beautiful sunshine a year, with temperatures of around 18-24 degrees. It is a fantastic resort for a fun filled holiday with family and groups of friends. Fun is the key factor here in Benidorm during the summer. If it's a bit of relaxation you want, the best time to stay here is early on in the season, around May/June time or later on around September/October time. The weather is still fairly warm and the atmosphere is a little quieter, ideal for a relaxing holiday.

Beaches in Benidorm

Benidorm is home to 3 Blue Flag Beaches, Levante, Mal Pas Cala and Poniente. Levante and Poiente are the 2 main beaches in Benidorm, which get very busy during the main summer months of June, July and August. Mal Pas Cala is located between the 2 larger beaches and is a small cove with a great rocky area to climb on or just sit and watch the world go by. The sea is crystal clear; you can see your toes sinking in the sand below! Poniente beach is situated in the west of Benidorm and is a family orientated beach with calm waters, golden sand and a great selection of watersports. You can soak up the sun on the sun loungers provided and the kids can be kept safe from the midday sun by using the parasols. When you want to escape the beach for a little bit, there are plenty of shops scattered around for you to browse through. Levante Beach on the other hand is in the east of Benidorm and is the busiest of the 3 beaches. There is always something going on here from beach activities and watersports to its fantastic lively atmosphere. Tourists flock here by the hundreds in the summer months, so you will need to get here early if you want a sunbed in a good spot!

Things to do in Benidorm

There are plenty of things to do here in Benidorm. You can explore the TerraNatura Parks; have fun in the theme parks or splash about in the swimming pools. The whole family will have a fantastic time. Take the family on a fun filled day out at the Terra Mitica theme park where they can ride the rollercoaster's, scream on the rides or watch the daily entertainment, all of this just 10 minutes from the centre of the resort. If you want to get wet for the day, head to the TerraNatura Aqua Park where there are numerous waterslides and chutes, a wave pool, children's pools and a spa area. The complex is spread over 40,000 square metres and has something for everyone! You can relax in the spa, soak up the sun on the sun terraces, splash about in the pools or even swim with the sea lions, you won't get bored here. There is also the TerraNatura Zoo with over 1500 animals from 200 different species to see. Visit the animals, learn about endangered species and discover the vast amount of trees, plants and flowers, all in one area. Just outside the TerraNatura Parks, the golf lovers can enjoy the Villaitana Golf Resort which is home to two 18 hole golf courses. The course is spread out over 6,100 metres and has stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and Sierra de Finestrat.

Benidorm Culture

The cultural Old Town in Benidorm has plenty of shops, bars and restaurants to enjoy. Browse through the shops and purchase local crafts and gifts to take home, stop in one of the local bars for a relaxing drink or enjoy an intimate meal in one of the small restaurants dotted around. Explore the 3 regular street markets held on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The Foietes Market sells a variety of local produce including crafts, fruit and vegetables. The El Pueblo Market is held on Wednesdays and Sundays and sells a variety of Spanish handmade handbags, gifts, clothes and hot snacks and finally the El Cisne Flea Market which has typical Spanish antiques and the occasional live music.

Nightlife in Benidorm

The nightlife in Benidorm is very lively with open-air nightclubs and themed bars along the beachfront and in the centre of the resort. Start your evening off Spanish style with a late evening meal, and then dance the night away in one of the many clubs. There is a promenade that runs behind the beaches and are jam packed with bars and restaurants. You can sit and enjoy a relaxing drink whilst watching the tourists go about their evening along the promenade. Placa del Castell is a historic area in Benidorm which has beautiful coastal views from the viewpoint. You can take a glass bottom boat trip to Benidorm Island where you can discover the underwater world and take in the beautiful skyline of Benidorm.

These beaches tend to get very busy during the height of the season where tourists come from all over to relax. Levante Beach is situated along the East coast of Benidorm and is the most popular of the 3 main beaches. You can hire a sunbed to relax on, use the parasol to shelter from the midday sun or rent out a jet ski and have some fun in the water, whatever takes your fancy, there will be something to keep you occupied here at Levante beach. Just remember that if you want a sun lounger in a good spot you will need to arrive early to avoid the flock of tourists!

Mal Pas Cala is situated between Levante and Poniente beaches. It is a small cove with a rocky area. Whilst sitting on the rocks admiring the views you can dip your feet into the crystal clears waters below. Along the West is Poniente beach, a beach which is aimed more towards families thanks to its calm waters, soft golden sand and a good choice of watersports. Along the beaches there are a number of bars and restaurants to relax in as well as shops to wander round. You could get yourself a little picnic to have on the beach or a souvenir to take home.

Benidorm is jam packed full of things to see and do. For starters there are the amazing beaches which are perfect for relaxing on as well as enjoying the watersports on offer. You will find Terra Mitica theme park just 10 minutes from the centre of Benidorm. The theme park has a number of rollercoaster's for all ages from young children to thrill seekers. A fun filled place for the whole family to visit is TerraNatura Aqua Park. It is spread over 40,000 square metres and has numerous waterslides, a spa area, swimming pools, children's pools and a great wave pool. If you don't want to splash about, don't worry, there is a spa to relax in or a sun deck full of loungers and parasols to lay back on and soak up the sun rays!

Benidorm is known for its excellent choice of shops to wander round. You can buy anything from designer goods at low prices, leather goods and your usual holiday souvenirs to take home. There are 3 regular street markets which are held on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. These markets sell everything from fruit and vegetables to clothes, bags and local handmade crafts.

The resort has over 1,000 places to eat, drink and dance in. The restaurants and bars cater for families with young children as well as couples and those travelling in groups or alone.
